What is a .htaccess file?

A .htaccess file is a type of Apache(web server) configuration file. It allows for per-directory configuration of many attributes. 


With .htaccess you can configure a multitude of functions. Including: user authentication, URL Rewriting(mod_rewrite), IP or hostname based access control, etc. 


Can I use .htaccess files?
