DNS Propagation Print

What is DNS propagation?

In some situations we need DNS changes like changing name servers, changing MX records etc. When we are doing these types of DNS changes every DNS server in the world needs to update its records of what IP is associated with which domains. Normally it will take it some time for every DNS server in the world to update its records.

So DNS propagation is the time that takes for all the DNS servers to update with the new DNS records.

How long will it take for my domain to propagate through the DNS system?

It can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, in most cases. However, some ISPs have their DNS servers setup in a fashion that may cause them to retain records longer than they should.
